We are closed for submissions for publication in 2023. However, we are open for 2024. If interested in speaking with C.J., continue reading through this page in its entirety. If you read everything, and still feel that we may be a good fit to work together in getting your project out to the world for 2024, please fill out the contact form at the bottom, and C.J. will respond as quickly as possible.
**WE ARE ONLY TAKING BLACK & WHITE INTERIOR BOOKS.**
We work together to make sure your work is treated with the utmost respect, and that you produce a great gift for the world to enjoy. This is a family owned business. It was founded by sisters: C.J. Peterson and LM Mann. And run by C.J. Peterson and her husband, Trevor Dallas-Orr,
C.J. will meet with you to determine the best course of action for you and your book. After the publishing agreement contract is signed, she will take you through a marketing and branding course, allowing you to be ready when your book is ready to launch!
If you are a first time author with us, you will have a cover reveal. Each author gets their own book launch with other authors joining in from their network to give your book some extra exposure!
Once your book is launched, C.J. is still here for you regarding marketing and book questions. When you join Texas Sisters Press, you are part of the Texas Sisters Press family!
**Please know that an author is paid 90 days out from the sale of a print book, and 120 days out from the sale of an ebook.
What this means is we work together to share your work with the world as best as we possibly can. We do this in steps. What you see is what we charge in the price list below. While there may be a possible additional charge if we have to purchase an extra graphic for your cover, we do our best to avoid that.
In working together, know that you as the author will retain full copyrights to everything except the ISBN number, as it is attached to Texas Sisters Press. This creates a worry-free environment for the author. Also, once published, the author retains 90% of the net from Ingram and 100% of the net from KDP.
We clearly spell everything out in the price list, as well as the publishing agreement contract. If you have any questions regarding these, please do not hesitate to ask.
What you get for that is: 5-10 minute Live Cover Reveal (if you are a new author); 45 minute to 1 hour Live Book Launch with other authors to share the joy of celebrating your launch, as well as their network; and 9 hours of Zoom to work with C.J. regarding Marketing and Branding. We know social media and marketing can seem like a daunting task, but C.J. will work with you to make it more streamlined and easier once it is set up.
You will also receive help in starting your KDP account and uploading your book.
When your work is ready, C.J. will help you set up your cover reveal and book launch, where other authors will join you in celebrating your book with their network, too!
When the holidays come, C.J. will take you through a holiday marketing class so you are prepared for the incoming holiday season. Once launched, if you need to, C.J. will show you how to find your books online.
Now, just so you know, after your book launch, we are still available for questions or concerns. After all, just because you've graduated, that doesn't mean your family leaves you on your own. They continue to be there for you. Same with the Texas Sisters Press Family!
Also, this is a POD (Print On Demand) publishing company. Your book(s) will remain online as long as you wish. You may also order copies of your books through C.J. for book shows or to sell on your own. C.J. will walk you through the process.
We do not publish every book submitted to us. We reserve the right to refuse to publish a book, regardless if you have published through Texas Sisters Press before. We require that we read through each book to make sure it is a good fit for our publishing company. We recognize that not every book is a good fit for us. So, if you are not a good fit, there are other places we can recommend. There have been multiple times where we have met with an author to talk about making some possible changes, suggestions, or editing, even after the author feels it is ready to publish. If we read through it and make some suggestions, such as an editor, please see below.
There are many companies out there who will just publish a book to get it out there. That is not us. That reflects poorly on publishers as well as authors. That was one of the reasons why we started Texas Sisters Press - to publish quality books.
We also have a certain "line" that we will not cross when it comes to what we publish. This is one of the reasons why we read all books published through our company. Your book may not fit within those lines. If it does not, we are happy to recommend another publisher for you.
While we do read through each book, we ask that it has already been put through the editing process by a professional prior to sending it to us. If you do not know where to start to look for an editor, we have a list of editors we have either worked with before, know someone who worked with them, or they have been recommended to us. We do not get kickbacks, a referral fee, or bonus if you go through them. This is the same with illustrators. We have a list to help you get started, but we do not have one on staff.
We do this, because you need to make sure your editor and/or illustrator is a good fit for YOU. Not every person is a good fit for every illustrator or editor, so we leave that to you. (Please see bold statement below.)
Once you feel it is ready, we reserve the right to make sure it is to our standards prior to publication. If it is not, or you refuse to let us read it, there are other companies we can recommend.
Whomever you choose to use for editing and/or illustrating, whether through our list or on your own, the contract with that person is between you and them, NOT with Texas Sisters Press.
As an author, you are your own marketing team - you are an authorpreneur. We can teach you how to do market, but it is ultimately up to you! This is your work. As stated above, C.J. will take you through a marketing/branding course. She will also offer you some tips and tricks. If there is time, she may also show you how to create ads. However, actually creating them and posting on your social media, or finding book shows for you to participate in, is YOUR responsibility.
Regardless if you are indie, hybrid, or traditionally published, you would still have to market your own work. You can feel free to hire a PR firm, or a media assistant at your own cost.
While we do have social media accounts, we are not your marketing firm. We will share your book launch and various announcements that we want to share. We are not required to share your work via our accounts.
We also attend books shows and comic cons. We may have a rack of some of the Texas Sisters Press books available. If so, we do not sell other author's books at these shows. We offer those interested a Texas Sisters Press business card, and have them look up the TSP Author Page to find the author's own page so they can get it directly from the author.
When you publish through us, your books will be online, not in a physical store. They will be listed as follows if you choose to utilize the upload to Ingram option:
Paperback & Hardback: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, sometimes Target or Walmart (but these last two are not a guarantee).
Ebook: Kindle, iTunes, Kobo, and Nook
There is also an option of Amazon only. (See the à la carte section in the price list.)
C.J. has been a published author since 2012. Lydia has been a published author since 2015. They have been in your shoes. They know what it's like.
Because of this, they try to keep the price as affordable as they can, without taking advantage of either the author or the publishing company. We require 50% on signing of the publishing agreement, because that ensures we get paid if you do not finish. We get the remaining 50% just prior to publication, because that ensures the author that we're not just here to take your money. (Please refer to the contract regarding this.)
We do not publish your book and then completely ignore you. We are available for any questions or concerns via email. Sometimes C.J. will send out a marketing opportunity. We let you know if we will not be available due to vacation or family emergency. We do our best to look after you as we would want to be looked after.
While we are frequently available to help either via phone, text, Zoom, or email, that does not mean we are available on demand. We do have families and they come first. We also attend book shows and comic cons, and both C.J. & Trevor have a farm. Please be rest assured that we will respond as quickly as possible. We understand this may sound cruel, but you need to understand that there are other authors and moving parts within this business, as well as within their lives. They usually respond well within 24 hours. If nothing else, they will let you know they got the message and will get back to you as soon as they have an answer to your question or concern.
Still here? Please download & read through the price list & publishing agreement below. If you feel like you may be a good fit for for the Texas Sisters Press Family, please fill out the contact form below the price list and publishing agreement sections. C.J. will get back with you as soon as possible!
